Traffic shaping for cloud data

Small and medium businesses need easy and inexpensive solutions to gain visibility to applications and topologies that hog the most bandwidth. Also, with the continual migration of data centres to the cloud meant providing WAN visibility and optimization solutions using resource constrained edge boxes, or even without physical boxes.

Alumnus implemented Carrier Grade WAN optimization solutions on low-cost MIPS devices, supporting up to 10 Mbps full-duplex traffic. Solutions were implemented on hypervisors like VMWare ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Cisco ServiceBlade and KVM, and on Azure. Since the ‘software’ would not be physically in-path of the data traffic, provisions were made for redirecting traffic to it.

The optimization solution could be delivered as a Virtual Appliance, suitable for cloud deployment and cloud traffic management.
